Upkeep Phase

Roland spends 2 clue tokens to avoid drawing a dust card, and then gains 1 clue token from his Intuitive ability

Roland sighs as he sits upon the Science Building’s steps with his partner Malone and the monkey, it hops onto Roland’s shoulder, removes his Fedora and begins searching for bugs in the frustrated detective’s hair

< They wouldn’t take the monkey, sir >

< Shut up, Malone! >

Ursula cannot wait to leave the Lodge after such a deceptively dark shoulder rub with a spooky vase, she draws a ragged breath in and pulls her Lucky Cigarette case out, her hands shake as she lights a cigarette Ursula’s eyes flit over the traffic in the street < Where to next? I thought I’d be further into the cultist thick by now >

Silas slides the birch bark canoe out of its hiding place He paddles down the Miskatonic River to the open sea, intending to follow the coastline to Innsmouth town

Hank spends 5 clue tokens to place There’s Pa! in play and gains Pa as an ally

Hank searches around the Train Station and looks again inside an old warehouse that reeks of fish and is filled with crates, at last he finds his father bound and gagged amongst them

< Pa! Pa, are you all right? >

< I am now, son, thanks to you You did real good, Hank, I’m mighty proud of you >

< Pa, look what I found! >

< You hold onto that shotgun, son, I have a feeling you’re going to need it >

< How did you get tied up? >

< A bunch of fishy-smelling—and looking—guys jumped me when I went outside for some air, they’d seen me buying those old books about Arkham and they thought I knew more than I did, they tied me up and were going to ship me to Innsmouth, where they’re from If you hadn’t come along >

< One of those fishy guys came after me too but I decked him good What do we do now, Pa? >

< Way I see it we need more information, going to Innsmouth is too risky at least right now but maybe when we know more, besides we need money for the bus fare >

< Should we go to the police? >

< No, son, the police can’t help us, we Samsons gotta look after ourselves >

Movement Phase

Science Building -> Historical Society

Roland hands over the monkey to Malone as they walk through the dark streets of Arkham, he keeps his eyes trained on the skies looking for the hellish worm he had seen just a short while ago The night air is pleasing and its smell reminded him of his home streets of

< Awwwww! did that little bastard just shit on your lapel, Malone? >

< I believe he did, sir, shall I shoot it? >

< Nah just keep a few paces back, Malone Maybe we can find some old news articles at the Historical Society and find out what exactly this town is up to aside from housing illegal animals without a permit >

Silver Twilight Lodge -> General Store

Ursula walks on oblivious to her surroundings her thoughts a swirl of tantric spells, casually she smokes a cigarette whilst puzzling over the odd clues Clutching the Lodge’s book she makes her way to the General Store

Unvisited Isle -> Devil’s Reef

Silas spends 2 movement points and uses his Able Seamen ability, at Devil’s Reef he picks up the clue token

Silas dips his oar into the water and propels himself onwards with strong, machine-like strokes, soon he rounds a headland of slate cliffs populated by a thousand gulls and beyond it he pushes into Innsmouth Bay The town is a derelict place over which poisonous looking saffron vapour hangs belching out from the chimneys of Marsh Refinery White caps signal rocks beneath the sea’s surface and Silas also notices several buoys which he guesses are markers for lobster pots Now his arms are starting to ache so he paddles close to grab hold of a buoy and rest before he pushes on to Innsmouth dock Silas wipes the sweat from his eyebrows and then blinks stupidly, the buoys have all disappeared

Independence Square -> General Store

Patrice breathes deeply as she strides through Arkham and tries not to think about the troubling events that have taken place, it is as if the entire world has gone mad! she smiles sardonically < If everyone else seems mad then maybe it’s me who’s the crazy one, now there’s a happy thought > She needs to relax and shopping at the General Store seems the ideal place to do that

Patrice browses along the shelves, matches, tobacco, sugar, etc She glances down an aisle and sees an odd looking customer, certainly not a resident of Arkham what with her tweed jacket, man’s shirt and pants She approaches the woman and proffers her hand in greeting

< How do you do? I’m Patrice, Patrice Hathaway >

Train Station -> The Unnamable

Hank spends 3 movement points going to The Unnamable evading the dhole on his way

Hank walks with his father out of the Train Station and back into the Northside streets It is pitch black out, a stygian and moonless night, and with the heavy cloud cover overhead not even the stars are visible, but that doesn’t stop them from hearing a loud, slimy, squelching sound coming from down the street

< What in tarnation is that? >

< I dunno but it’s darn big, too big for that shotgun to be of much help even, let’s get out of here >

Soon they have reached the relative safety of the Merchant District and whatever it was has not followed them

< Now what? >

His father points to an old, decrepit house ahead of them

< That there house is supposed to be haunted or something, those old journals mentioned it >

< Yeah I remember What’s it called, Pa? >

< It’s called The Unnamable >

< Well if that’s its name it’s not really unnameable, is it? >

< You got me there, son >

Silver Twilight Lodge -> General Store

Ursula, lost in thought at the counter of pen knives, looks up in alarm at Patrice and then gives a flicker of a smile as she holds Patrice’s hand

< Pleased to meet you, I’m Ursula >

She looks Patrice up and down

< A musician I presume? I’m afraid to ask where you’ve been playing, there’s a slight odour of barnyard animals It must be him over there, that burly fellow with suspenders and farm boots >

< Ah yes! yokels, disgusting people A musician? yes, I play violin for the Boston Philarmonic And you, Ursula, what do you do? >

ARKHAM ENCOUNTER PHASE

ghoul

Historical Society < The society is discarding what it calls a taxidermist’s trick Draw a monster from the cup and claim it as a trophy >

Roland, Malone and the dirty monkey sit on the steps of the Historical Society moping like a bunch of fat ballerinas, its door is locked and Roland has spent the good portion of a few minutes knocking

< Do you hear that, sir? >

Roland turns his ear toward the door, he hears the most death curdling scream ever to escape all the hells there ever were

< You’re damn right I heard that, Malone C’mon! >

Roland kicks open the door to the Historical Society and draws his gun Standing no more than six feet in front of the detective is a nasty ghoulish creature with dead yellow eyes, it raises a gnarly claw and then it poises as if to spring, but before he can even fire a shot the business end of a broken meter stick shoots through the back of the ghouls’s head hurtling one of its dead yellow eyes over Roland’s shoulder, the monkey quickly picks up the eye and eats it Roland, now mostly covered in decrepit brain bit and vitreous humour, is shocked to find the curator of the Historical Society wipe the ghoul from his ruler and then immediately assume the hard tone of authority

< Take it and go >

< What >

< Take it and go! >

< But >

< We’re closed >

< Wait >

< I said Take it and go! >

The curator backs Roland out of the Historical Society, thrusting the corpse of the ghoul onto him and then slams the door, leaving Roland, Malone, the monkey and a rotting corpse completely aghast

< It would appear the curator >

< Shut up, Malone >

General Store, Ursula < You try talking to the elderly locals gathered around the potbellied stove playing checkers, but you gain nothing but stares and a few befuddled grunts for your trouble Apparently they don’t like outsiders No encounter >

Devil’s Reef, Silas < The stars above the water seem larger than you’ve ever seen them before The skyscape seems strangely alien and threatening Lose 1 Sanity >

General Store, Patrice < You notice that some of the locals have an odd, fish-like quality to them that sets your teeth on edge Lose 1 Sanity >

The Unnamable < A monster appears! >

Hank and his father enter the creepy and mysterious house, as they look around the decaying living room a man in a black hooded robe slips in behind them through the front door

< Ia! Ia! Cthulhu Fhtagn! >

The robed stranger draws a dagger and advances

< You talk funny, mister >

< Shoot him, son! >

Hank raises his shotgun and pulls the trigger, the echoing blast strikes the man full in the chest and knocks him back, leaving him a bloody mess on the floor

< I got him, Pa! >

< You sure did, Hank That’s one of the ruffians who tied me up >
